Fid Ready for Insertion into Core

Here the fid with the cover attached is ready to be inserted into the core at Mark 2. Push the core together at the mark to expand the strands, and insert the fid. Don't split a core strand with the fid.
IMPORTANT: if you intend to use hardware like shackles with your splice, now is the time to put that hardware on the line. Metal eyes can wait until Step 9, when the splice eye gets close to its final size.
